Houndstooth.

In Italy they call it "pied-de-poule", or chicken foot. In English, it is called "houndstooth",  a  two-tone textile pattern woven with alternating bands of four dark and four light threads . Traditionally in black and white, houndstooth is a universal symbol of class and elegance. Originating in Scotland, it was consecrated in the 50s by Christian Dior. On runways across the globe, the trend of the fall/winter 2013 fashion forecast is houndstooth. Designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Rachel Zoe, and Comme des Garcons sent stunning models down the runway in this graphic print in striking black and white. From casual to formal, houndstooth can be applied across fashion palettes boldly or subtly. Dress up a basic dress with a hounds tooth belt, or fashion the entire dress in the high contrast pattern. Houndstooth has gone through transformations throughout the decades. It has been classic in the tailored suits of Chanel and avant-garde in the structural looks of Comme des Garcons.

You can utilize houndstooth trims to dress up a sweater or jacket, create stunning hairpieces or belts, or even utilize them in eye catching jewelry. The possibilities are endless with a bit of creativity. In wool, satin, or vinyl, you can never go wrong with houndstooth.
