Black, Gold, and Gatsby.
The moan of a jazz singer, the sparkle of beaded fringe, the thunder of a new age roaring into being. The 20s made way for shorter hem lines, taller buildings, and a new wave of daring fashions. With The Great Gatsby drawing movie goers into a bygone era, its no surprise that the fashions have made their way into the mainstream yet again. With bold, modern interpretations of the fits and cuts of the 20's shown across the globe in runway show after runway show, designers have put a new twist on a classic style. In the Gucci's black and gold dresses, we see the sharp lines and finishes reminiscent of New York deco architecture. Mixing textures seems to be the theme designers have been following in the re-incarnations of the flapper dress. The key is to keep it fun, keep it short, and keep it moving!

A Rose By Any Other Name.
"My colors are blush and bashful." A line from the now classic film, Steel Magnolias rings true of the coming color palette for fall. Various shades of mauve, rose, and pale pink hit the runways of fashion week in full force. Lanvin, Blumarine, Armani, and Dior reinvented the hue this season in various cuts. From delicate dresses to geometric coats, the playful color was a muse of top designers.
Along with its fashion application, rose is also becoming a hot trend for weddings. The light, airy, dainty color spans all seasons. Combined with ivory and green it evokes the newness of spring. When paired with deep greys and plum, it becomes rich. It can be applied in floral arrangements, flirty bridesmaid dresses, or in ribbons to add style to a reception hall.

Houndstooth.
In Italy they call it "pied-de-poule", or chicken foot. In English, it is called "houndstooth", a
two-tone textile pattern woven with alternating bands of four dark and four light threads . Traditionally in black and white, houndstooth is a universal symbol of class and
elegance. Originating in Scotland, it was consecrated in the 50s by Christian Dior. On runways across the globe, the trend of the fall/winter 2013 fashion forecast is houndstooth. Designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Rachel Zoe, and Comme des Garcons sent stunning models down the runway in this graphic print in striking black and white. From casual to formal, houndstooth can be applied across fashion palettes boldly or subtly. Dress up a basic dress with a hounds tooth belt, or fashion the entire dress in the high contrast pattern. Houndstooth has gone through transformations throughout the decades. It has been classic in the tailored suits of Chanel and avant-garde in the structural looks of Comme des Garcons.
You can utilize houndstooth trims to dress up a sweater or jacket, create stunning hairpieces or belts, or even utilize them in eye catching jewelry. The possibilities are endless with a bit of creativity. In wool, satin, or vinyl, you can never go wrong with houndstooth.
